Impressions on the friendly game against Boitsfort Rugby Club

For the history of the European Parliament’s team, this is a date to mark in the calendar, on 26 April we played our first friendly against Boitsfort Rugby Club.

It is important to keep in mind that in rugby, friendship, a good game, knowing how to be together and, above all, having a good field to train and play are of crucial importance! When the field becomes a second home, you get used to the journey, you feel good on that playing field where you run, sweat, make many sacrifices and give it all.

Big tribute also go to our coaches, Alain Bloedt and Romain Moortgat, for their dedication and patience. The rugby team is nothing without their coaches. Our team is very lucky as we have excellent coaches and a fantastic playing field in the greenery of the Foresterie in Boitsfort. We can be grateful to the Rugby Boitsfort club, born in 1970, which allows us to train, they hosted us from the beginning as a family, all our thanks go to them again for what they allow us to do in their premises. What is now for us, as for them, our second home.

As a result, this friendly game became a very strong goal for all of us during the months of training, a team that started training in September for the first time with an oval ball, a date that should have demonstrated that we were ready to play rugby, play good rugby, with the home side of the pitch!

About the game

After we got changed in the locker room we started warming up, no one could imagine such a level of emotion and concentration that we all had at that moment, we took the field together in the official uniforms for the second time after our first game in Paris. We scored two tries and throughout the first half, we continually attacked their half.

Despite less than half their experience and playing ability, we were in the game. We have demonstrated to everyone and first to ourselves, the enormous progress in quality made in those last months of training. The match was at the end won by Boitsfort who scored three tries. It is never nice to lose but sometimes it is necessary to recognize the efforts and progress made in the small things. That is why it is important to mark this date on our calendar, because for the first time in less than 8 months we have taken to the same playing field as Boitsfort, playing on equal terms!

Our adventure in the Rugby world has just begun. Long live the EPXV!
